The Grand Offal Party is not only in the business of obstruction and doing nothing, it is also becoming a dangerous club to belong to.
In a hearing run by Bernie Sanders, Chairman of the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee, which Sanders was holding to review how unions help working families, a cage match almost broke out between Senator Markwayne Mullin of Oklahoma and Teamster union leader Sean O’Brien. In the past, O’Brien has made some unsavory comments about Mullin, who is strongly opposed to unions.
Here’s some of their exchange.
“This is the time, this is the place,” Mullin told O’Brien after reading a series of critical tweets O’Brien had sent about him in the past. “If you want to run your mouth, we can be two consenting adults. We can finish it here.”
The exchange escalated from there, with Mullin telling O’Brien that “this is the place.”
“I’d love to do it right now,” O’Brien said.
Mullin replied: “Well, stand your butt up then.”
“You stand your butt up,” O’Brien shot back.
When all was said and done they agreed to keep their butts down and meet for coffee. I don’t know about you, but given their distaste for one another, I wouldn’t put myself anywhere near a scalding cup of coffee fearing not for my butt, but my face if things get testy.
Just last week Former Speaker Kevin McCarthy elbowed his fellow Republican Representative Tim Burchett in the kidney. I guess McCarty is still smarting from his humiliating removal from the speakership. When Burchett was asked about the incident he said he felt “sorry for him and that he would pray for him.” (McCarthy, of course, blamed the elbow event on it being a tight squeeze to make it through the hallways of Congress.) Rumor has it that when McCarthy heard that Burchett was going to pray for him he told an aide, “Sorry for me, pray for me? That sanctimonious S.O.B better pray I don’t see his sorry ass butt outside the building.”
Speaking of praying and dangerous people, there is the newly minted Speaker of the House Mike Johnson. Just three weeks before this little known man was anointed, he joined a prayer call where he lamented that American culture was “so dark and depraved it almost seems irredeemable.” (Read that as being overtaken by a mounting army of the LGBTQ who are poisoning the soul of God’s country. Johnson in the past has also referred to abortion as an “American holocaust.” ) He went on: “The only question is: Is God going to allow our nation to enter a time of judgment for our collective sins? Or is he going to give us one more chance to restore the foundations and return to him?” He added: “We need to turn to him. We need a revival.”
Looks like God has answered Johnson’s prayers as he is now second in line to the president. All he needs now is some divine intervention to hoist him the next rung. (I’ll leave the interpretation of divine intervention to your imaginations.)
And then there is, according to some Evangelicals, the divine intervention that is Donald Trump. And like Mike Johnson, The Don, is convinced that America is in a very dark place, but only with his intervention can the country be saved.
So according to the man who is second to the president, and the man who most likely will be the nominee of the Offals for president, America is in a very dark place and we need some saving. Get those elbows flying, butts up in the air, as the battle for the soul of America continues.
Though Johnson and The Don harp on the darkness, their way out of it is a bit of a contrast. The impish, mild mannered Johnson thinks we can get there through prayer; the scowling, brash Don through kickin some butt!
Here’s Johnson again at the end of his prayer call:
“We (need to) repent for our sins individually and collectively. And we ask that you not give us the judgment that we clearly deserve.” (Read this as what I call the “killing them softly” approach that through prayer God gives us time to rid ourselves of all the undesirables and return to being the White Christian nation he blessed. )
Here’s The Don’s take during a speech on Veteran’s Day on bringing back the American Dream and rescuing us from the darkness:
“In honor of our great veterans on Veterans Day, we pledge to you that we will root out the communists, Marxists, fascists, and radical left thugs that live like vermin within the confines of our country. Lie, steal, and cheat on elections, and will do anything possible, whether legally or illegally, to destroy America, and the American dream.”
“The threat from outside forces is far less sinister, dangerous and grave than the threat from within.”
The Don has also recently ranted that Jack Smith, the special counsel investigating him, would be diagnosed as “suffering from a horrible disease, TRUMP DERANGEMENT SYNDROME (TDS!)” and “in a Mental Institution by the time my next term as President is successfully completed.” This is some harrowing stuff!
A second term for The Don will strip bare our democracy and be four years of revenge and purging.
He would purge the federal government of as many civil servants as possible. In their place, he would install an army of political and ideological loyalists whose fealty to his interests would stand far and above their commitment to either the rule of law or the Constitution. This is some harrowing stuff!
He would use the military to crush protests under the Insurrection Act — which he hoped to do during the summer of 2020 — and turn the power of the federal government against his perceived enemies. This is some harrowing stuff!
He would make the D.O.J his pawn. “If I happen to be president and I see somebody who’s doing well and beating me very badly, I say, ‘Go down and indict them.’ They’d be out of business. They’d be out of the election.” This is some harrowing stuff!
The Done also expressed a desire to institute a program of mass detainment and deportation of undocumented immigrants. His aides have already drawn up plans for new detention centers at the U.S.-Mexico border, where anyone suspected of illegal entry would be held until authorities have settled the person’s immigration status. This sounds like an updated version of the internment camps used for the Japanese during WWII. This is some harrowing stuff!
The Don is telling us exactly what he is going to do. He is telling us that if he gets another shot at the presidency that he will rule with an iron fist and do whatever it takes to destroy those he perceives as his enemies. He is telling us that America will become a dictatorship under his rule. Elbows and butts will be flying everywhere and American Democracy will get a kidney punch it may not recover from.
