Another anniversary of the January 6th insurrection and Republicans keep moving further and further down the rabbit hole of conspiracy and delusion. How is it possible that many Republicans who watched the events of January 6th still believe that it was a bunch of tourists visiting the Capitol? Really, are you delusional? Yes, you are.
It has been said many times, but bears repeating: This is a cult. In a cult, you believe your leader has special powers to deliver you to a “promised land,” so you are willing to believe and do anything for them.
How do you square your vision with the fact that a number of police officers died, and approximately 150 were injured? Oh, they were just being rude by blocking the tourist’s entry and shit happens? Maybe it’s time for you to listen to some of these officers describe what those “tourists’ were like, and how to this day, many still feel traumatized from the attack.
People were screaming “Hang Mike Pence” and actually put up a platform with a noose. How do you square that? The tourists found the possibility of a lynching of the vice president part of a special event during the tour? I mean, come one, wouldn’t that just be the coolest thing to see the Vice President of the country hanged live on national TV? You could even video it and put it out there in cyberspace.
Members of the crowd maced officers with bear-spray. It wasn’t bear-spray, it was Febreeze? You know, with all those bodies together the air was getting pretty funky.
Politicians feared for their life and fled in terror. Oh, they were just making room for all the tourists and many of them had to rush to pick up their kids at soccer?
Let’s face it, there is a lot of reality to deny here so what about inventing a conspiracy theory that allows for the reality of the violence, but allows you to believe the “tourists” were the victims and they were just defending themselves from the deep-state. Well, guess what?
According to a new Washington Post/University of Maryland poll, 25 percent of Americans said it is “probably” or “definitely” true that the F.B.I. was behind Jan. 6. The F.B.I.? That’s a beauty!
Richard Baum, 61, an Independent voter (Yes, Independents believe it too!) from Odessa, Tex had this to say: “The people that went there to express their views, to support Trump, were peaceful. The government implants were the violent ones: the FBI, the police people that were put in there, the antifa and BLM hired by George Soros; everybody knows that.”
Let’s face it. The Don and his cronies have made a swath of Americans doubt American institutions: The F.B.I. is a diabolical organization that is part of the Deep State. So is the Justice Department, the CDC, The EPA and of course, George Soros, the Jewish philanthropist somehow has his fingers in all of this. The Deep state is destroying America. America is in the dumpster. Acknowledging LGBQT+ rights and talking about race is poisonous. It’s time for a reckoning. Who is going to save us from this spiraling down into this modern day Gomorrah?
Guess who? The Don to the rescue. Just a few days ago he put up a video on Truth Social touting the idea that God created him as a caretaker and “shepherd to mankind.” “God said, ‘I need somebody willing to get up before dawn, fix this country, work all day, fight the Marxists, eat supper, then go to the Oval Office and stay past midnight at a meeting of the heads of state,’” topping off a hard week with Sunday church. “So God made Trump.” Church? Really?
And his flock is all in. Here are a few of his believers.
“Trump is our David and our Goliath,”
“This election is part of a spiritual battle. When Donald Trump becomes the 47th president of the United States, there will be retribution against all those who have promoted evil in this country.”
A spiritual battle indeed. It is about the belief that America is God’s chosen country and it has fallen from grace. It is about a belief that this country is only great when there is White Christian Supremacy. It is a battle for the soul of America. The frightening thing is that Republicans are ready to ditch Democracy to “save” America from its devilish descent. What these naive believers don’t realize is that the person leading them, restoring them to their proper place “in the promised land” is the devil himself. It never works out well when you make a deal with the devil.
As we know, the devil is not about bringing people into the light. When he has access to power the lights go out. In his court of appeals case, The Don’s attorney argued that he should have full immunity from any crimes committed while president. When one of the judges asked the attorney a hypothetical question about whether a sitting president could order a Navy Seal to kill a rival, his attorney claimed that only a president who has been impeached and convicted (by the Senate) could be put on trial for a criminal act (a conviction after an impeachment has never happened to a president, but that’s besides the point.) In essence, he implied that the president could act anyway he wants without impunity. When you can assassinate rivals without consequence, that’s as they say, “lights out, game over!”
Before I end, let me pose a question that I wished one of the judges had ask, “So by saying that a president can’t be tried from crimes committed while in office unless they were convicted after an impeachment, does that mean that if President Biden for some reason thought your client was a threat to American Democracy that he could have him eliminated? What say you to that counsel?”.
