What could possibly be worse for The Don than having to pay a half billion dollars in damages from civil suits, with the potential consequence that if he didn’t pony up, he could have his assets seized?
Humiliation of his financial weakness shook the “greatest businessman ever”. The Don is furious. But what is, and will continue to make him more and more crazy and unhinged, is something very simple. He, like any other citizen prosecuted for a crime, has to sit in court for 8 hours a day, day after day, with no way out.
Somehow, during a lifetime of criminal behavior, he has managed to avoid this fate, reinforcing his belief that he is above the law-that he could literally shoot someone on 5th avenue and nothing would happen to him. That’s why he believes in the absurdity that presidents should be immune from any criminal act, even ordering Navy Seal Team 6 to kill an adversary!
Until now. That he has to sit and listen to a judge, not say whatever he wants whenever he wants, and has to listen to others testify against him without any capacity to respond will be unbearable.
The Don’s great Houdini trick is to take whatever someone says about him, flip it on its head and make that person the bad guy. Joe Biden is destroying democracy. The judge is racist. Etc, etc, etc.
The fundamental psychology of a narcissist is to contain deep underlying feelings of humiliation by creating a grandiose and false self to protect him from how small he really feels. Having to contain himself during the trial will deplete and diminish him. His inability defend against the humiliation will agitate him to no end and activate his rage and the desire for retribution. The deluded megalomaniac is now sitting there like Superman being locked in a room with kryptonite. The more he has to take in the comments about him without a way of getting rid of the poison, the weaker and smaller he becomes.
He already has had to listen to comments from prospective jurors (who were not selected) who trashed him. He was called a “racist, sexist narcissist,” “unchristian,” “evil” and more. He heard a social media post from a few years ago describing his “egomaniac, sociopathic incompetence,” with one of his many critics concluding, “I do believe that he was the devil.”
His attempts to protest have met with stern rejection by the judge. Here’s Judge Merchan: “That has to end. … There comes a point where you have to accept my rulings. There’s nothing else to clarify. Nothing else to argue. We are starting this trial Monday morning.”
After hearing this, The Don thought this was his excuse to leave and violated courtroom protocol by standing up. He was sorely mistaken. The judge looked him in the eye and asked: “Sir, would you please have a seat?”. Trump quickly sat down like an obedient little boy. The bloviated bully was now very small and meek, the air let out of his bombastic bubble. The man who was used to controlling things, saying what he wants, ending meetings when he wants, was just one of us.
Let’s try to imagine what is going through his mind while he sits and sits and has no outlet. What happens to the rage and bombasity?
What thoughts could he have when he hears a female witness speak about him in unflattering ways?

The list of those who are in line of fire when he ascends to the throne are endless. But there will be times in the courtroom where revenge fantasy will quiet and he will have no escape from the reality of the world he finds himself. This will be an exhausting psychological challenge for him as his entire Modus Operandi is to control the narrative, distort, project, deflect and rewrite reality.
For the first time in his life, The Don will not be in charge of creating his own delusional story. The wheels of justice will turn and he can’t get off the bus. What a wake-up call for him to finally have to deal with the reality that he is just another guy who has to obey the rule of law.
