While the Republican Party has pushed the Great Replacement Theory for years, it has now embarked on something even more sinister, which I call “The Great Erasure Theory”.
In the GRT, immigrants are targeted and maligned through conspiracy theories and propaganda as a threat to Americans: They will steal your jobs, homes, and even your wives; they are a danger to every decent American. In the Great Erasure Theory, the breadth of who, and what, represents a danger, including those targeted in the GRT, has expanded to anyone not on board with the right-wing’s vision of America. It is a frightening prospect, and authoritarian at its core.
It is right out of the playbook of the 2025 project, which The Don denied knowing anything about. The American people are such suckers. In polls, a significant majority of Americans oppose the contents of the 2025 project, yet some of these people still voted for The Don.
The goal of the Great Erasure is to control who has value and who doesn’t, who belongs and who doesn’t, who is a believer and who is not. The overriding message: those who buy into the new regime are protected, and those who are not will be erased. This is Russian-style oppression. Instead of “We Will, We Will Rock You,” a new American theme song will be: “We Will, We Will, Erase You.”
We are now in a time when the right to call oneself a real American is under siege. Take the attempt of removing birthright citizenship as a potent example. Were The Don to win this battle, millions of Americans will become persons non-grata. Their identity as Americans will be stripped from them- stripped of their citizenship, they will be erased.
The debate over who can call themselves American is as old as America itself. The settlers decided that Native Americans were a threat and nearly erased them. Slavery ensured Blacks were less than human, erasing their needs, wants and desires.In Dred Scott v. Sandford, perhaps the most infamous decision in all American jurisprudence, the Supreme Court held in 1857 that a former slave could not be a citizen. When Trump launched his political career by questioning the citizenship of Barack Obama, America’s first Black president, he was trying to erase him.
The Don and his henchman are very clear about their desire to return to a world controlled and dominated by Male White Christian Supremacy. The country has been “too feminized,” people of color and women are not competent to be in positions of power and responsibility. The Don’s attacks on D.E.I. are alarming and outright racist and misogynistic; blaming the tragic air collision over Washington D.C., on D.E.I. In other words, diversity breeds incompetence. Darren Beattie, hired to run public diplomacy at the State Department had this to say: “Competent white men must be in charge if you want things to work.” It is the ushering in of Jim Crow 2.0: this time it includes women, immigrants, people of the LGBT community, and frankly, anyone who is part of the “woke”, “radical left wing” world.
People like J.D. Vance would have women taken out of the workforce and relegated to domestic life of yore: having babies, the Martini ready for her man’s return from work, having sex on command. Even wimpy Mark Zuckerberg is on board. Zuckerberg now talks of “masculine energy” being sucked from the workforce, and corporations need to bring that “aggression” back. There was talk of a cage match between Musk and Zuckerberg.
Erasure is everywhere, even at the Super Bowl. With The Don in attendance, The NFL decided to remove the words “End Racism” from the end zones and replace it with “Choose Love.” “End Racism” was implemented after the murder of George Floyd. The NFL should be ashamed of itself. Another powerful organization taking a knee to The Don. What an insult to the Black players (maybe even some white ones?). For only the second time in Superbowl history, two Black quarterbacks are squaring off. Black athletes make up 53 percent of the NFL. Bye bye George Floyd and hello love? No matter what bullshit the NFL claims as its reason for the shift, they are just sucking up to a man who lives by hate and revenge. Choose love? Gag me with a spoon! This is another attempt to white-wash our history of racism as is the banning of books and the rewriting of textbooks to sugarcoat the barbaric and heinous history of slavery. When I heard about this erasure, I had the fantasy that if the NFL players came on the field and refused to play the game until “End Racism” was restored in the end zones, it would be seen by 100 million people. Advertisers would lose their minds because of all the money they would lose if their commercials weren’t aired. What a powerful statement. What a blow to The Don’s racism.
The declaration that there are only two sexes attempts to erase transgender people. The assault is jarring. At the National Institutes of Health, displays honoring women and scientists of color have been removed and at the National Science Foundation, program officers have reportedly been directed to reject grants that mention anything related to diversity, equity, inclusion or accessibility. A scientific paper that aids doctors in recognizing people who are at risk for suicide has been taken off a federal site because it mentions that transgender individuals are are a very high-risk group.
Erasure is everywhere. Certain newspapers, like the N.Y. Times, are being banned from their offices at the Pentagon and being replaced with the likes of Breitbart, a bulwark of the right-wing. Next will be White House briefings and anyone who speaks or prints something unfavorable about The Don.
F.B.I agents and prosecutors who were involved in the January 6th investigation are being fired or on the verge of losing their jobs. Inspector Generals, whose job it is to oversee agencies in the government to make sure laws are followed and corruption is called out, have been fired. Thousands of federal employees are at risk of being removed from their jobs and replaced with The Don’s “yes” people.”
The firing of one of the members of the National Relations Board essentially erases it as a functional entity. The NLRB requires a minimum of three members (there can be up to five) to adjudicate complaints of employer malfeasance. So now that there are only two, the board is functionally neutered and for all practical purposes erased. Erasing the NLRB will allow businesses to operate without any recourse for employees. Employee voices will not be heard. The people lose and the corporations win.
NPR and PBS are being scrutinized with the idea of defunding them so they can no longer operate. After all, they are part of the left wing, woke media who are an anathema to The Don and his ilk. At least one federal entity, the Defense Intelligence Agency, has “paused” recognition of Black History Month. The Air Force even removed a video celebrating the Tuskegee Airmen, a segregated unit of Black pilots who fought in World War II, before restoring it amid an uproar.
The Don is champing at the bit to erase as many environmental regulations that he can. This will move us backwards in making progress to mitigate the devastating effects of climate change. Once again, the people are the loser and the corporations get another victory. He is blocking grant money for medical research and is actually blocking the release of a report that is a synthesis of 150 researchers focused on the present state of our natural resources water, biodiversity and our air.
Newly minted Office of Management and Budget Director, Russell Vought (a significant contributor to the 2025 project) erased the Customer and Protection Bureau which was established in 2010 to protect people from greedy credit card companies and other financial institutions, tt had obtained nearly 20 billion in financial relief for consumers, once again the people lose and the corporations win. In addition, The Department of Education is on the chopping block. What impact will that have on our children?
Erasure is not limited to the domestic front. The annexation of Greenland, the Panama Canal and the U.S takeover of Gaza, which according to The Don, would result in two million people being removed from their homeland. A second Nabka. And guess what? The Don will turn the area into the “Mediterranean Riviera.” Can’t you see Jared Kushner drawing up the plans for the hotels?
Here’s what Bezalel Smotrich, Israel’s far-right finance minister, said after hearing The Don’s proposal: “Now we will work to completely bury the dangerous idea of a Palestinian state.” Here’s an emboldened Bibi Netanyahu: “There are opportunities for possibilities that I think we never dreamed of, or at least a few months ago they did not seem possible — but they are possible.” Rumor has it that Bibi Netanyahu was in such a state of ecstasy when he heard The Don’s proposal that he had to leave the podium and run to the bathroom to masturbate.
The Don signed an executive order to freeze all foreign aid, which caused chaos all around the world (a judge has issued a temporary block on the order). Agencies that are providing humanitarian services: access to medicine, food and healthcare were placed in the awful position of not being able to provide essential services to poor people all around the globe. African governments are wondering how to fill gaping holes left in vital services. Aid groups and United Nations bodies that feed the starving or house refugees have seen their budgets slashed in half, or worse. People are already dying because of this despicable act of cruelty. It comes as little surprise that the cuts will mostly affect those “shit-hole” countries that The Don has referenced in the past. The majority of the people who will be impacted are non-white.
I can’t end without addressing The Don’s takeover of The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington.
“At my direction, we are going to make the Kennedy Center in Washington D.C., GREAT AGAIN,” wrote The Don on Truth Social. “The Kennedy Center is an American jewel, and must reflect the brightest STARS on its stage from across our Nation”. The Don “immediately terminated multiple individuals from the Board of Trustees, including the Chairman, who do not share our Vision for a Golden Age in Arts and Culture.” This takeover is one of flurry of executive orders aimed at rolling back the previous administration’s policies on art, culture and historical commemoration. The Don’s actions has turned “Americas jewel” into coal.
For his first act, The Don, whose favorite song is YMCA, will give an award to the Village People. Melania Trump and Laura Trump will be the national spokespeople for the Center. Laura will be in charge of the musical awards; Melania is going to implement a yearly fashion show. Kid Rock and Kanye West, aka, Ye, who is now selling shirts with swastikas on his website (believe it or not, an ad of these shirts was allowed to air on certain regional broadcasts of the Super Bowl!). Christian music will be played during award ceremonies. Now that’s American exceptionalism at its best.
