White Supremacy Underwrites it All

So what’s happened this week? Well, The House of Representatives, after some in-fighting, passed The Don’s “One Beautiful Bill,” which simply put, makes rich people richer by taking healthcare away from millions. It also significantly cuts the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, known as SNAP, which will increase food insecurity. This is cruel.

The bill also increases the national debt by three trillion dollars, even though The U.S’s credit rating was lowered by Moody’s, specifically because of our rising debt. The lowering of our credit rating makes investing in the U.S. less safe, which drives up the interest lenders expect to be paid for their investment. This causes the percentage of our GDP, used to pay debt, to rise, which weakens our economy (interest payments on our debt are currently the second highest expenditure in the federal budget. It’s more than our entire national defense spending!)

Let’s not forget the tariffs which will increase the burden on the average American to make ends meet. Taken all together, what we have is an economic policy that is cruel, increases inequality; and is actually outright dumb, destructive, and dangerous. It is also a clear example of The Don and his Republican sycophants disregard for many of his voters. Even ultra-conservative fist pumping MAGA Senator Josh Hawley is disturbed by the cuts to Medicaid. Here’s Hawley: “Over 20 percent of Missourians, including hundreds of thousands of children, are on Medicaid. They’re not on Medicaid because they want to be. They’re on Medicaid because they cannot afford health insurance in the private market.” You mean it’s not because they are low-life moochers?

Cutting Medicaid will leave approximately 13 million Americans without Healthcare, many of them White rural supporters of The Don. The Republicans just don’t care as long as they can get the tax breaks for the rich (50% of the money will go to 1% of the population.) I believe there is a racial component to all of this. Many Republicans are still attached to the idea (despite the evidence) that most people who will be impacted will be Black, stemming from the Reagan administration’s use of the racist and disparaging concept of the “Welfare Queen.”

So much of the administration’s actions are tied to the devaluing of anyone but white men. We see it everywhere. We see it in the desire to dismantle anything that has a whiff of D.E.I.

We see it in the demonization of immigrants (remember during the campaign when the Haitians living in Ohio were accused of eating pets?).

We see it in the banning of books about race. Ban Toni Morrisin a national tresure?

We see it in the desire to take control of the African American Museum in Washington in an attempt to whitewash essential elements of our sordid past.

We see it in the dismantling of agencies whose job it is to protect the civil rights of marginalized people. Across the government, agencies that have historically worked to fight discrimination against Black people, women, and other groups have pivoted to investigating institutions accused of favoring them.

Examples of this are the opening of a civil rights investigation into the city of Chicago to see if its mayor, or others, had engaged in a pattern of discrimination by hiring a number of Black people to senior positions.

The Office for Civil Rights at the Education Department is investigating whether Chicago’s public school system is violating the Civil Rights Act with its “Black Students Success Plan,” alleging that it favors one group of academically underperforming students over others.

Last month, it began questioning the hiring practices of 20 of the country’s biggest law firms, claiming that their efforts to recruit Black and Hispanic lawyers and create a more diverse workforce may have discriminated against white candidates.

Anyone who is paying attention can see it all in plain sight. The administration is advocating and acting in a way to advance White Supremacy. In fact, during his campaign for president, Mr. Trump expressed concern about what he called “a definite anti-white feeling in this country.”

In one of the most bizarre meetings of a U.S. president with a foreign leader, The Don literally accused South African President Cyrik Ramaphosa (Oval Office exchange on Wednesday) of not doing enough to protect the white South Africans who he said were “being executed.” In fact, he actually used the word “genocide to describe what was taking place” During the meeting The Don referred repeatedly to “dead white people.” The Don also had a video showing where all the dead bodies were buried. Turns out the video was a publicity stunts with no merit in fact. The idea of a reign of terror perpetrated on White Afrikaners is blatantly false but plays well to the base.

In fact, despite the end of apartheid, about three quarters of privately-owned land is still in the hands of whites who make up 8% of the population. Only 4% of privately-held land is owned by Blacks who are nearly 80% of South Africa’s 60 million people. The Don is basically saying: “You see what Black people are doing to White people in South Africa? That can happen to us.” The Don’s sympathies for the White Afrikaners led him to create a policy where Afrikaners could seek asylum and be welcomed with open arms, while all others seeking asylum are denied the opportunity.

Given The Don’s insane need to put Harvard in its place, by denying any international student from attending the hallowed institution, I won’t be surprised if he creates a policy that only allows White Afrikaners to exclusively apply to Harvard.
