Eclipsed

Eclipse is to obscure and darken. Given the political reality (or unreality?) we live in, we could say we are living in “eclipsed” times. The denial of truth and invention of an alternate reality casts a pall over our country. The Don, a.k.a., the prince of darkness and obstruction, with his legion of political sycophants, perpetuate the dystopian vision that America has become a shadow of itself and is catapulting toward ruin.

Darkness looms. We are looking into an abyss and through the special glasses worn by those with MAGA eyes, only The Don can save us. In their distorted minds, embracing the Orange Jesus is the only way to keep the moon from blocking out the sun. Seen this way, The Don is a human eclipse who believes he is the light when he actually is the darkness.

This beacon of light is someone indicted on 91 criminal counts, who still promulgates the “Big Lie” about the 2020 election and is already predicting the results of the 2024 election will be rigged if he doesn’t win. He crows about ‘his’ Supreme Court overturning Roe Vs Wade, eclipsing the rights of women; calls immigrants “animals” and stokes White Supremacist fears by championing that “vermin” are eclipsing White people. He and his party are also working hard to eclipse the right of people of color to vote.

Just a few days ago, Speaker Mike Johnson, went to Mar-a Lago to kiss the ring and get The Don’s blessing. At a joint press conference, Johnson, with that eerie impish smile (I definitely wouldn’t trust him with my child), had the unmitigated gall to champion election integrity. Hypocrisy be damned. Johnson was deeply involved in trying to overturn the election. The question is: Will there be enough Americans to be duped by this dark magic?

For many across the country, watching the eclipse was a kumbaya moment. For a short while, millions were mesmerized by something bigger and more powerful than us petty and miniscule humans. We all witnessed the same thing and were awed by it. A communal moment for a polarized populace. Well…?

Surprise, surprise, whacky (and dangerous)  Majorie Taylor Greene thinks the eclipse is a sign from God that America needs to repent its sins.

Right-wing commentator Alex Jones recently held an event to discuss “what the globalists have planned for the imminent total solar eclipse”.

His guest Andrew Meyer (according to Jones ‘an expert on this”) told viewers the eclipse falls on a date in the Hebrew calendar where new energy can be pushed into the coming year. “The globalists, obviously, they want to make a big push for evil, negative energy,” Mr Meyer said. “They want to inject the seed of every new year with negative energy because that’s what they harvest.”

A guest host of Alex Jones’ Infowars also discussed the idea that scientists studying the eclipse “are using the solar eclipse as a justification for the nefarious plans they intend to carry out.”

According to the host, when combined with the path of the US eclipse in 2017, they form a cross. At the center of that cross is Carbondale, Illinois. If you live in Carbondale, that means you will be lucky enough to see the full eclipse twice in seven years. According to debunked influencers on TikTok, it also means doomsday starts in your city. It all means you need a math degree from a Christian school to have any idea WTF he is talking about!

Some social media platforms were promoting the idea that the eclipse will bring on a massive human sacrifice

According to Wired magazine some “Far-right conspiracy theorists are claiming that ‘elites’ will use the eclipse to control humanity, sway the presidential election, and everything else under the sun.”

In MAGA world, any event has the potential to become a conspiracy theory. Continuing with Christian math- world, rumor has it that there are dogs that poop in the same spot everyday and sometimes their poop makes a cross and when that happens that dog becomes a demon and…
