A Real Texas Lowdown

The Don decided to throw a party way down in Texas-a hoedown that morphed into a pathetic lowdown. He tried to rally the troops before what will hopefully be an old fashioned barn burner, with the Republican candidates stuck in the barn.

The irony of it all is that The Don is responsible for burning down his own house. Even crazier is that many of the lawmakers in attendence, rather than screaming “fire, fire!” stay in the barn to remain in his good graces. It has all the trappings of a cult. Fear of reprisal for betrayal makes for incomprehensible decisions. It is still incredible that smart (and some dumb) lawmakers continue to choose to remain in The Don’s delusional bubble. It reminds of a scene in Monty Python’s “Search for the Holy Grail.”

Speaking for two hours, The Don worked to whip up the crowd. Knowing that his Republican cronies were about to face an ignominious defeat, he pleaded with the crowd. “Please pretend that I am running,” he said. At one point Mr. Trump asked attendees to raise their right hands and pledge to him.

Please raise your right hand. I pledge to the greatest president in the history of the United States. That loves us so much he can’t even breathe. That I will go out with my family, my friends, I’ll do it any way — I don’t care if I’m registered or not, I’m going to try to cheat like hell like they do. There’s never been bigger cheaters. They don’t care. I am going to go out and I’m going to get my friends, my family. And we are going to vote on Nov. 3, or we are going to vote before that.

Dutifully, the crowd raised their hands in support. And to put the fear of God in them he added: “You know what happens if you don’t vote?” Mr. “You go to hell.”

The president who “loves them so much he can’t breath,” has created an economic environment that is choking Americans. The man who cries foul about all the unregistered people who vote, fraudulently, urges his followers to vote “registered or not” and “cheat like hell the way they do.” (Democrats.) Crazy stuff ,but all to be expected from this unhinged man who smells the opposition coming for him.

Desperate, The Don did roll out a potentially $1 trillion surprise promising to send $5,000 to every adult citizen — only if Republicans keep control of Congress. How absurd. One it is illegal to bribe people to vote and two where would the money come from? Taxpayers!

Despite increasing gas and food prices caused by tariffs and his war in Iran, he continues to tell  his delusional story about how the economy is thriving, continuing to claim the affordability issue is just a hoax.

“I’m bringing the prices way down,” he said. Democrats “caused it,” he said of high prices, “but we’re fixing it.” Gas prices, he insisted, will be “going down as soon as we win the war with Iran.” Not true and when exactly is the war ending? The sober realty is that he hasn’t a clue.

Despite the ill effects and unpopularity of his tariffs he continues to justify them and reminded the crowd that “tariff” is one of his favorite words. Just guessing but some of his other favorites are: cheat, steal and destroy.

He also went on one of his renaming sprees stating The Strait of Hormuz be retitled the “Trump Strait”. After all, he “should get something out of it.” Now that the Gulf of Mexico is the Gulf of America why stop there? He insisted that he would rename Lake Ontario to Lake America; he raised the possibility of renaming the Pacific or Atlantic oceans, though showed some sign of humility by saying “I don’t think we can do both.” He once again floated renaming the state of New Mexico “New America.”

The Don went nuclear in his ravings and demonization of Democrats who he claims “are dead set on bringing about a communist America.” The ghost of Joe McCarthy was dancing in the hall.

The polls seem to suggest that the ravings of this man are losing their luster. More people are leaving the flock. They feel duped. They struggle while they witness The Don, his family and friends become richer and richer by engaging in the most egregious corruption this country has ever witnessed. They are becoming tired of his false promises. The disapproval of our involvement in a war of his choice is off the charts. He is even under water on immigration as his cruel methods have turned off Americans. All the while he extols his greatness, heralding his ballroom project, fighting to have his name on the Kennedy Center and spending millions on his reflecting pool disaster.

Many of those who voted for him are now turned against him. Their voices are getting louder. Given his thirst for unquestioned fealty and adulation, his delusional bubble grows in order to protect him from his fall from grace. The more powerful the delusion, the crazier he becomes. Election day will be a barn burner. Let’s hope he doesn’t burn down our democracy in the process.
