The Don celebrations of the 250th anniversary of our founding is more of a desecration than a celebration.
When Kash Patel’s girlfriend is the default singer of the Star Spangled Banner for the opening of the State Fair celebration of America’s 250th birthday, you know we are scraping bottom. The multi-day event was a sad day in our history. If this represented our greatness, we might still be a British colony.
Once again, we are talking about size. This time it’s about how many people showed up on the National Lawn to be part of The Don’s pathetic celebration. Perhaps we should call it the Big Yawn on the National Lawn. So many people, so many, that some of them had to sit on floats in the rreflecting pool and as far away as the Potomac. And remember folks, the first inauguration the crowd was much more bigly (I really miss that word!) than Obama’s. In his words: “The Crowd was incredible last night, packed to the brim — At least 45,000 people were there, with a huge Television and online audience. I wish we were able to have an even larger area, which we will be able to do on July 4th, when I’ll be speaking again. The airplane flyovers and music were fantastic. Everybody stayed right until the end of my speech because they loved hearing about a truly successful America.”
Despite The Don’s belief in his amazing fair, he hasn’t received the accolades he expected. On cue, he lashed out.
“Do you think people appreciate what a fantastic job we did in building and operating the Great American State Fair at the National Mall, packed with happy people, and everybody loving it?”
“Ask yourself this simple question, ‘DO YOU THINK THAT OBAMA OR SLEEPY JOE BIDEN COULD HAVE DONE IT?’ THE ANSWER IS NO!”
That’s absolutely true. Barack and Joe could never have pulled this off. They didn’t have the imagination to start off this great celebration with a cage match. No way.
They never would have had Vanilla Ice as their headline performer. No way. But they probably would have had a competent enough staff to avoid all the ice cream from melting from a a power failure; even the Ferris Wheel was shut down for a while. I don’t know about you, but no ice cream and being stuck at the top of a Ferris Wheel meets the criteria for hell for me.

Extreme heat and rain forced organizers to temporarily shut down on Sunday afternoon. When they announced the shutdown on a digital billboard, organizers urged attendees to check for updates on the social media channels of “Freeedom 250”—misspelling the organization’s name with an extra E. Who knows, maybe that was purposeful given how much The Don believes in freedom.

Despite The Don’s ire at less than flattering views of his version of Ringling Brothers, he said that the fair marked the beginning of America’s new “Golden Age” and promised even bigger festivities on July 4, when he is slated to give another speech. Another Yawn on the Big Lawn.
What does the great lover of freeedom have to show for himself? Let me count the ways:
Freedom to make as many deals and as much money for him, his family and friends no matter how illegal.
Freedom to rip off the American people. by using tax money for his per projects.
Freedom to tear down the East Wing of the White House for a gilded ballroom (Oh, those columns), put your name on anything that doesn’t move and recreate Washington in your image.
Freedom to take others’ freedom away. Rounding up immigrants, disenfranchising voters.
Freedom to start a war and lose bigly.
Freedom to make the U.S. less trustworthy and less desirable as a partner around the world.
Freedom to deny healthcare to millions and raise the cost to millions more.
Freedom to increase food insecurity by cutting food stamps.
Freedom To remove nftioninformation that tell the real story of our nation.
Freedom to take away aid from poor countries causing tens of thousands of innocent people to die.
Freedom to devalue and attack the LGBTQ community.
Freedom to spew hate and seek revenge on people who don’t support him.
Freedom to break laws and not follow court orders.
Freedom to mount a multi-faceted campaign to undermine free and fair elections on the absurd premise that he is making them fairer.
Freedom to attack media companies for speaking truth to power.
Freedom to dismantle the infrastructure of our institutions. (Think DOGE.)
Freedom tod delegitimize science and undermine scientific research by rescinding billions of dollars of support for research.
Freedom to further destroy our environment by removing regulations that safeguard us while working hard to turn back the clock on projects supporting green energy.
This is freedom as tyranny, exactly what the signers of the Declaration of Independence revolted against.
TThe idea that all men are created equal is a wonderful and aspirational credo. However, from the beginning it, it was a document born in contradiction and hypocrisy. as it applied only to White men. Our original sins, the eradication of Native Americans and slavery stain us till this day It never ceases to amaze me how such a bold and noble idea could have such a narrow minded execution. We seek liberty and freedom for all but we need slaves. We fought a civil war over this and finally emancipation for black people came, but after a few years of Reconstruction when they started to thrive, their freedom was severely compromised by Jim Crow laws. Little by little,, the battle for freedom progressed. Women could finally vote. The Civil Rights and Voting Rights finally ended Jim Crow. The rights of people in the LGBTQ community advanced. The rights of disabled individuals were expanded. All of this has been part of the of our work to manifest the idea of our founding: equality and freedom.

With each step forward there has been resistance. White Male Christian Supremacy has consistently raised its ugly head to curtail this movement toward equality and freedom for all. Under The Don and guided by the text of Project 2025, we have moved to a place where the assault on our basic rights is threatened on a daily basis on a daily basis. The very question of what makes someone an American has been brought into question by those who seek to move us backward. Thankfully, the Supremely Awful Court supported the constitutional reality of Birthright Citizenship; but the battle will continue as long as The Don and his racist henchmen are in power. There is no doubt that The Don and his cronies will do everything they can to disenfranchise black and brown people from voting. The trans community is under attack as well. Once again, we are being challenged to defend our “inalienable rights.” Once again, like in 1776, when the idea of freedom was undermined by the justification for slavery, we have to ask ourselves who we are; we have to rise up against the hypocrisy of the Republicans idea of freedom. We need to fight to preserve the idea we aspire to, where “all people are treated equally with equal justice for all. The people in charge of this country don’t believe that. Let this July 4th remind us of what our country, warts and all, is striving for.
